by way of explanation, last year when we read Barnouw and Aufderheide, I started to see how the early documentary film movement had all these artists, filmmakers, sound people, activist working with this relatively young technology to make a difference in the world. As I read, I started to map out connections between people (like Grierson screening Battleship when he screened the Drifters; like Flaherty working for Grierson for a while in England, etc.).
